I had been taking FloMax. My eyes are very slow to dilate. When I went for cataract surgery, it took two hours or more before the doctor (not Dr.Pham) could begin. The surgery center was pressuring the surgeon to get me out of there. I only have useful vision in one eye due to complications during cataract surgery done by another doctor. Later it developed that I needed cataract surgery on my only good eye. Naturally, I wanted a different doctor. My primary care doctor (David Cahn) referred me to Dr. Randal Pham. I was told he can handle FloMax compromised dilation with a special procedure. That is why I have entrusted him with my eye care. I believe he is mindful of my dependence on one eye. I am particularly impressed that he has an operating room in his office and he has complete control over what happens over there. He has done eyelid surgery, cataract surgery, and a laser lens capsule procedure on my good eye. The results have been 100% satisfactory. If you have ever taken Flomax, its worthwhile contacting Dr. Pham.

Fifteen years ago I had a surgery to remove the Pterygium for my right eye and had developed a tear and droopy eyelid. I had lid surgery performed by another doctor but it turned out worse than before. I had to have a third surgery to undo what was mistakenly done. Fifteen years later I found Dr. Pham through my coworker. She referred me to see Dr. Pham because she had a few friends and family who had their surgery done with Dr. Pham before and they were happy with their results. I was scared and skeptical to consult with Dr. Pham at first because I was worried it would be difficult to fix and might turn out even worse, but the only reason why I became comfortable and at ease with Dr. Pham is because he took his time to explain the procedure step by step to me so I believed in him and let him try to work his magic. I came into the office to do my consult and fill out my paperwork, the employees there were all very nice and friendly. They were very helpful in answering any questions that I had. The day of my surgery, everything went very well and smooth. It took about 15-30 minutes for the procedure to be done but there were some wait during the pre-op and post-op to make sure I am ready before the surgery and after the surgery to go home. Overall, I am very happy with the result for life and I am thankful to Dr. Pham for fixing the mistake the other doctor left behind. I will continue to come check up with Dr. Pham whenever needed.

I visited Dr. Pham's office for an eye exam to receive a prescription for contacts. I was immediately taken aback by the amount of technology in the office. Unlike many other eye professionals who would push for glasses, contact lens, or Lasik, Dr. Pham recommended that I do not get any glasses, contact lens, or Lasik. He said that my eyes were only mildly nearsighted, so I should keep what I have because when I reached my 40's I will not need to wear reading glasses. Here is a physician who put patient's interests above that of his own and his profession. The eye drops that he prescribed also help my eyes with dryness throughout the day. I recommend him to any person who needs any eye related service.

I went to Dr. Pham to have my cataract and astigmatism removed at the same time on my right eye about a year ago. I am now very happy with the result that I can see much better with my right eye. I highly recommend Dr. Pham to anyone, especially to whom that has cataract and astigmatism developed from RK (Radial Keratotomy) surgery like I had before.

I had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Randal Pham. On the first day of my consultation, I felt comfortable with him. He is professional, pleasant, soft spoken, and he always greets you with a smile. He clearly explained my eye problem. Dr. Pham did my left eye cataract surgery with a good outcome. Dr. Pham is not only a practicing ophthalmologist, practicing cataract surgery, but is also an instructor for other ophthalmologist's. He has received degrees and certificates from some of the best eye institutions in this country. He specializes in laser eye surgery, particularly laser cataract surgery. As of this writing he is the only ophthalmologist who performs laser cataract surgery in the Bay Area. He is an outstanding doctor both with the patient and with the technique. There are no handoffs here. He personally sees you during the evaluation and presents the evaluation results himself. He performs the surgery in his own offices, with a dedicated staff to assist him. He sees you afterwords to evaluate the results and make any adjustments if necessary. He also sees you on all followup visits, not like some 'assembly line' practices that hand you off to someone else. He puts safety and results first, not money. He also uses the latest technology in replacement lenses so that you will never need glasses or contacts again. This technique can also be used for patients that just want to permanently get rid of glasses or contacts. Lasik only lasts for several years in most cases. This is permanent. About the technique: Dr Pham uses a 2nd generation machine to do the procedure. He also acts as an advisory to them, suggesting changes to the machine to improve patient comfort, results, and ease of use. This machine resides in his office which was specifically designed to support it. Should the power go off? No problem, the machine has a backup to continue the procedure without interruption. Should their be an earthquake, the machine, unlike a surgeon with a scalpel, will instantly shut off if the beam approaches safety perimeter of the operating field. The actual cutting and disintegration of the lens takes around 42 seconds, at least in my case. The setup and this stage of the surgery takes less than 10 minutes. I felt nothing. The second stage, lens removal and replacement takes around another 15 minutes. I had both eyes done - a day a part. My surgery dates started on a Monday, were over by noon Wednesday, and could see better than I ever did with contacts by Friday. I could have even driven back to the office for my after surgery that Thursday. I had mild pain in my left eye the first night, that was easily resolved with a couple of Tylenol. No pain at all from my right eye. I was wide awake during the entire procedure and immediately left the office after its conclusion. The advantage of this procedure is it cuts a perfect circle for lens removal and a much finer incision than any scalpel can do. No surgeons hand can be this accurate. This allows for more precise placement of the new lens and less complications. It also has a higher margin of safety than can be produced with a surgeons hand and with less scaring resulting from the finer cut. Also from what I understand, there is less risk to the patient. The only drawback I have found so far is that it is somewhat more expensive as insurance plans may not cover the cost of the extra expense of using the laser machine. However if you have been told you have cataracts that have to be removed it it scares you as it did me, This is the best way to go as far as I am concerned. The reason: the combination of the 2nd generation machine combined with Dr. Pham's skill. One visit with him and it is likely most of your anxiety will be gone. There is simply no way that I can give Dr. Pham and his technique my absolute highest recommendation. FYI: I did not know or have any knowledge of him before I saw an advertisement for his services. I have received no kind of compensation for this review. I am just a well informed patient.

I was really excited to see how good my incision looked just days after the surgery. I felt no pain at all during the procedure or recovery time. I am so thankful that you took the time to really explain everything to me in a way that was easy for me to understand. I am also so happy that you were so careful to try to reduce the scarring, so I won't feel self conscious. Thank you!

Wow--I can see so much without forcing my eyes open. I was afraid to have the procedure done for fear of altering my looks too much and causing people and friends to take double looks at me--but this did not happen. Many people who know of my surgery commented my new look was very good. Because of my satisfaction my sister will be calling in for an appointment.

Dr Pham imparts a sense of confidence and caring in what he does for his patient. From the first moments following bandage removal from my eye, I was amazed at how clear and well I could see. Words are unable to express the wonderment in the improvement to my vision...and the other eye still needs to be done!

I felt no pain, and I was relaxed during eye surgery. I talked to Dr. Pham and probably talked too much, while he was performing surgery on my right eye. Dr. Pham has a way of making patients relax and he instills confidence. In other words he has great "bedside manner," which some doctors do not have--even though they may be competent and have much skill. On the day after my surgery, when my bandage was removed, I was actually shocked that I could see so well. I felt as though my eye had a re-birth!

Thank you, Dr. Pham, for your thoughtful and careful eyelid ptosis surgery. It is as though the blinds covering my eyesight have been lifted up and the light is coming in again. I am very pleased with the results.
